This is my very first stab at starting an online broadcast station...The info etc I picked up on this website has helped immensely...About the only thing I am short on right now is patience..lol....first I will tell you that I'm running cable internet using the highest home package available...I am also running a home network using a D-Link DI-514 Router...therein seems to lie the problem..
I will let you know that I have tried using IceCast Win32 to no avail...it just sits there looking totally stupid and cinfused (like me)..I found another broadcaster called SimpleCast which seems to do the job rather well...
Here are my tests and results to date?
TEST #1
Software Used:
ShoutCast and IceCast= nothing..unable to connect
ShoutCast and SimpleCast= Connected to local network..worked great!!!

Tested using only my home network and was able to listen on every computer in the house. Icecast Win32 would not work...even in the help files its shows areas of Icecast that i cannot find to edit..so i think there is a problem...lol

TEST #2 with router removed, one computer acting alone using my IP address
Software used:
ShoutCast and SimpleCast= FANTASTIC....I can be heard
Using the above configuration without the router (making wife and daughter very unhappy) I was able to connect using all the info including my ISP issued IP address..My youngest daughter who lives nextdoor was able to connect and listen to my music by entering my (IP address:8000)..
Now my problem is....how do I configure my router to allow my broadcaster to broadcast to the internet instead of my home network...and yes Steve I have found the gaming area in the router and have allowed port forwarding with regards to port 8000....So I am now at a complete standstill...I know it works...It just can't work or won't work with the settings I have used in the router...
If and when I get this thing running through the router to the internet I will write more info for everyone ...I build computers and I sell computers...I'm also fairly good working with networks...But for some reason this one has me baffled....oh I got it!!!! must be old age setting in.....60 in a couple years...so thats my excuse....
