The Opinion of a Baguette - Drea "The Pretty Ones"

Drea - The Pretty Ones
(published in Arthur October 2006)

Sweet. Harsh. Pure. Strong ...this voice and these songs are haunting, they will draw you in and lull you to dreams of all kinds. Drea’s new 7 song album is potent and full. With nothing except her voice, guitar and heart to rely on, she shares a story of who and how she is. The Pretty Ones paints a compelling self portrait that feels as honest as it gets.

Simply put, Drea’s music is a rough country whiskey, poured through a fearless voice, held by a strong hand and tied up with a ribbon. It is driven with her power to rock, and her drive to rock you. It is sweatered in what sounds like a childhood full of folk & country music, and kitchen parties. To me, this album displays a sound that has matured through tough friends, harsh realities and an unwavering commitment to the power of love.

This summer, Drea received the Emerging Artist Award at the 2006 Peterborough Folk Festival, and since then it’s been evident that this town just can’t get enough of her. She’s a sweet gem who’s gonna go far...so make sure to check her out when you get the chance. Currently she spends Tuesday nights rehearsing with The Holy Low Down band...and soon they will be ready to rock the pith out of you - so get ready, and don’t miss it
