RFN Welcomes Radio Tarahumara Dignitaries

Radio Free Network is pleased to welcome Eloisa Robledo and Romayne Wheeler of Radio Tarahumara to Canada.

Romayne will be playing a rare concert in Peterborough this evening at Trinity United Church at 7:30 pm. The concert is free, and there will be a voluntary donation at the end to support Romayne's social work with the Tarahumara.

See you there!

NCRA Slides - better late than never

It took a while to get around to posting them, but here are the slides from my NCRA presentation "DIY Open Source Internet Radio".

Enjoy!

ncra 2006 - phew!

Well that was fun. Kudos to Sarah and the crew at the National Campus Radio Association for an enjoyable, well run conference.

My talk had a diminutive but seemingly interested audience and although I had to rip through the last 20%, I was happy with how it went. I met some great folks along the way (howdy Stephen, Khalid, Justin, Erin [sic?], Chris, et al) and attended some interesting workshops.

I'll post the code, quicktime movie and slides from my talk sometime soon.

Thanks to the kind folk of 7 Ch Fiddler and 41 Ch Parent RR 1 for putting me up in fine style. No bears tried to eat me this time.

RFP and I would also like to welcome Ila Bea to the world. $5 says she's a bass player.

Up next? The Minister of Indigenous Affairs for the State of Chihuahua and a Vienese Conservatory Pianist will be coming for a vist regarding The Radio Free Network Radio Tarahumara project. Stay tuned...

Ready or not, here we go..

The talk is written, the bags are almost packed - ready or not, I'm Ottawa bound. The gracious John K Muir of Trent Radio will be picking me up from the bus station, and from there we're off to the cottage.

We expect to make it to the conference for some sessions on thursday, and we'll squeeze in some time to visit Brian and Erin's new spud "Ila Bea" and Jericho.

I'm taking the camera along, so I'll post some photos when I'm back.

Network outage overnight

When I got up around 3am for "other reasons" I noticed that the network indicators on the blinkenlites panel were off, but was too sleepy/lazy to do anything about it.

After some harsh words to the router, the network is back up and everything seems to back to normal-ish.

I'm still finishing off my talk for the NCRA Conference. Hopefully I won't still be writing slides on bus trip up there! Oh well. It promises to be a fun time regardless.

RFP's Steve McNabb to speak at National Campus Radio Association Conference

Look out Ottawa - here comes RFP! I'll be giving a 75 minute talk at the National Campus Radio Association Conference on the 10th June in Ottawa. The topic of my talk will be Open Source Internet Broadcasting, and I'll be putting the fear into the industry types as they clue in that regular idiots like me can build a global media broadcast infrastructure in a weekend.

I'll be heading to Ottawa with the ever-intrepid John Muir and will be crashing at his cottage. Thanks John! John is giving a talk on the 9th about how to get "good sound" out of less-than-pro-quality gear.

Streams for past feature artists are BACK!

When John and I had to rebuild the Trent Radio stream server, the streams for our previous feature artists didn't get ported over. Oopsie. They are now back online so you can enjoy the full discographies of Patrick Walsh, Brian Sanderson and Jill Staveley all you like.

You can also enjoy the full discography of Joe Hall - our current feature artist. Check out the Feature Artist page for the link.

Oh - and we're also now

It's Friday! Oh - and the streams are working again.

Both are good things. If you're in Toronto, go see the Silver Hearts tonight. It's their new album release party. If you listen really carefully, you can hear the sound of me loafing on the porch during the recording.

Sigh. Streams are broken again.

Wouldn't it be nice to have one whole day where nothing breaks? Today is not that day. The streams are temporarily offline. Once the DNS monkies are finished contemplating what to have for lunch, hopefully they'll find some time to fix our DNS.
